GCORE technology

A controlled conversion pathway.

GCORE is designed to accept unsorted, mixed waste with limited preparation. The feedstock does not require conventional sorting: loads are managed for energy content and process chemistry before gravity-fed conversion into a usable energy gas for steady, dispatchable generation.

01

Unsorted feedstock acceptance

Mixed waste does not require conventional sorting. Limited preparation focuses on load management, removing exceptional out-of-specification items and adding mineral acidity regulators where required. The cited design accepts whole waste items up to approximately 1.2 metres, subject to the final feedstock specification.

02

Gravity-fed conversion

The mixed feedstock is gravity-fed and thermally converted in a controlled, oxygen-limited environment. Unlike mass-burn combustion, the primary objective is to create an energy-rich gas.

03

Gas conditioning

The process gas is cooled and cleaned to the specification required by the selected power-generation equipment and emissions-control system.

04

Firm electricity

Conditioned gas feeds the generation island, producing dispatchable electricity for direct-wire, private-wire or grid-connected delivery.

05

Total destruction with no residues

Total destruction of waste — no waste residues. Mineral content leaves the reactor as molten slag and becomes chemically inert blast-furnace sand upon cooling.

Illustrative 24-hour output profile

Firm generation complements weather-dependent renewables by supplying a stable power block across the day and night.

How to read this graph: it illustrates generation characteristics, not a project forecast. Actual net output and availability depend on feedstock, equipment selection, maintenance strategy, site conditions and independently verified performance guarantees.
No sorting requiredDesigned for unsorted mixed waste, avoiding a conventional front-end sorting plant.
DispatchableOutput is scheduled around demand rather than weather.
LocalFeedstock and generation can be located close to demand.
Dual-purposeOne asset addresses waste treatment and power supply.
Commercial plant architecture

From waste reception to net power export.

A reference commercial configuration combines multiple reactors with gas cleaning, gas turbines and heat recovery. Standard industrial balance-of-plant equipment is selected around the core conversion system.

01Waste receptionUnsorted mixed waste; limited handling and load management rather than conventional sorting.
02Reactor islandThree gravity-fed reactors processing approximately 12 tonnes per hour in the cited reference case.
03Gas cleaningCooling, filtration and conditioning to generation specification.
04Gas turbinesTwo-turbine reference block converts syngas into electricity.
05Heat recoveryUseful exhaust heat is recovered to raise steam.
06Steam turbineAdditional power is produced before internal loads and net export.

The arrangement shown is a reference concept. Final reactor count, generation equipment, redundancy and output require project-specific front-end engineering and independent technical validation.

Technology in depth

One platform, several value pathways.

The core proposition is the conversion of mixed waste into a cleaned energy gas. The surrounding plant can then be configured for power, heat, hydrogen-rich fuel and carbon management according to site economics and regulation.

Conversion, not mass burn.

GCORE is positioned as a syngas-based conversion platform. This changes both the feedstock requirement, the energy pathway and the options available downstream.

GCORE pathway
  • Unsorted mixed waste with limited preparation
  • Controlled conversion into syngas
  • Gas cleaning before generation
  • Gas-turbine and heat-recovery route
  • Hydrogen and pre-combustion CO₂ options
Conventional incineration
  • Direct combustion of waste
  • Heat transferred to a steam cycle
  • Emissions treatment at the flue-gas stage
  • Primarily heat and electricity outputs

Hydrogen and carbon pathway.

An optional configuration applies water-gas shift chemistry to increase the hydrogen share of the fuel gas and concentrate CO₂ before the turbine.

Waste-derived syngasSteam + water-gas shiftH₂-rich fuel gas
CO₂ separationUse or sequestrationFirm power generation

Simplified chemistry: CO + H₂O ⇄ CO₂ + H₂. Carbon capture rates, energy penalties, storage routes and carbon accounting remain configuration- and jurisdiction-specific.

Outputs beyond electricity.

The conversion platform is designed to support multiple revenue and resource-recovery pathways rather than a single electricity output.

ElectricityFirm net export
HeatSteam or thermal use
HydrogenOptional H₂-rich route
CO₂Use or storage pathway
MaterialsRecovery subject to testing

Which outputs are commercially viable depends on feedstock characterization, product specifications, local buyers, permits and final process design.

Simple reactor architecture.

The reactor concept is deliberately mechanically simple, while the surrounding balance of plant uses serviceable industrial equipment.

  • Gravity-fed operation at atmospheric pressure.
  • No internal moving parts within the core reactor vessel.
  • No external heat or power source required.
  • Acidity regulated — no HCl formation.
  • Spinel-corundum refractory lining resistant to extreme temperature variation and chlorine.
  • Feedstock loads managed to an average energy content of 20-24 MJ/kg.
  • Gas quality maintained and optimized in real time.
  • At temperatures above 1,650°C, dioxins are destroyed and cannot re-form on cooling; tar-forming particulates are gasified or captured in mineral slag.
  • Recovered heat and steam are converted into additional electricity.

Industrial maintainability and scale.

The design philosophy combines a distinctive reactor with serviceable plant equipment, redundancy and planned access to critical components.

  • Standard equipment categories include filters, blowers, coolers, compressors, turbines, heat exchangers and oxygen supply.
  • Parallel trains, spares and isolation of wear components are intended to support maintenance without a full-plant shutdown where the design permits.
  • Gas buffering can reduce short interruptions between the reactor and generation island.
  • Larger reactor generations target lower operating cost per tonne through higher throughput without proportional staffing growth.

Availability, maintenance intervals, buffer duration and scale-up performance must be confirmed through detailed design, operating evidence and contractual guarantees.
